Tokyo Free Day

Having said goodbye to the club who were flying home myself and Jeppe had planned to stay out for a few more days the majority of which would be spent in the Northern island of Hokkaido. But we had set aside one more day in Tokyo for some sightseeing and shopping.

The day ending up being one of lots of travelling back and forth. For starters it was back out to the Disney complex to buy tickets for the Cirque de Soleil show Zed, which has its home here behind the Ikspari shopping complex.

Inside Ikspari where we hit the shops, most of them being chains you're familiar with back home.

Also took time out to watch a remarkable diablo juggler who at the peak of his lengthy routine was juggling four of them.

and not a surprise to find a Disney Store here but rather weirdly they didn't sell any merchandise with the Tokyo branding on it. I think this is because in Japan souvenirs are usually gifts for other people such as local food or alcohol. I think giving a friend a fridge magnet would be considered an insult :)

Having left Disney we then headed over to Roppongi, the western district of Tokyo and not an area I'm a fan of to be honest.

But it's here that you'll find the city's Hard Rock Cafe where Jeppe took the opportunity to buy some souvenirs.

Another Western celebrity. This time the ugliest actress in America selling "Not as unhealthy as normal coke but still unhealthy Diet Coke".

EPV0014
In Osaka the Don Quixote building has the funky shaped wheel. In Roppongi the Don Quixote store has a half-pipe coaster...well make that "had" a half-pipe coaster. Permission was never sought for the ride and it never got to open.

The Tokyo Tower, one of the first city landmarks we visited on the last trip became one of the last this time around.

From Roppongi we then headed across town to Akihabara and Electric Town a ridiculously large eletronic department store where you can buy any device you could think of but where you can't take photos. I got told off after taking these.

In the evening we headed back to the Cirque de Soleil theatre, which was absolutely superb. Jeppe had never been to one of their shows before. Previously I've seen Quidam, Dralion, Varekai, O, La Nouba, Ka, Saltimbanco and Alegria so I knew what to expect.

Having said that though I was still stunned by the intro which featured a curtain that opened downwards followed soon after by a bungee jumper who came within a foot of my face. Amazingly exhilarating and Jeppe became a fan too!

The Disney Hotel at night looks quite stunning too!

and another Western celeb. Dita Von Teese when not doing her burlesque show in a giant cocktail glass likes to drink orange liquer from one.
